Office Style : Keeping it Classy and Keeping it Real

1/17/2018

Whether you work in an office, run your own business, or keep it casual, you need some classy office outfits that won't break the bank. When you think office style, you don't have to think of frumpy business suits from the 80s and dress like you were in the movie 9 to 5. Here are some staple pieces and ideas you can adapt and tweak to put together your own office style, keeping it classy, office friendly, and budget happy.

This dress is one of my favorite dresses ever. I have the same dress with a lower neckline, from Forever 21, and it's so perfect on its own, but if you add a blazer, leather moto, or denim jacket, it's perfect for the office. It has a below the knee hemline, so you don't have to pull it down or worry about a slip-slip during the staff meeting. Five out of five stars, would recommend.

I am a short woman and I don't have a lot of torso going on, so I do not feel like a boss babe when I wear traditional pant-suits, but I really love these ankle pants. They're like the older and more classy cousin of the skinny jean. You can wear them with a cute and simple blouse and still look like you're in charge and know what's up. Wear them with a stiletto or a wedge and you're golden. For a cheap buy, look at JCPenny's, Nordstrom Rack, and Kohls.

I am in love with palazzo pants. IN LOVE. They're fun and fresh but also really easy to dress up for a formal office event or meeting. Search for palazzo pants on your favorite online shop and you can find a color or pattern that fits your business style. I'm on the hunt right now for some pinstripe palazzos right now for the summer months.

If you have to adhere to a strict, no-nonsense dress code, fun jewelry is your new best friend. I love Noonday. Noonday is a fair-trade company that is making an impact in some of the world's most vulnerable communities through their business, and they have really fun and colorful artisan jewelry. When I was working in a bridal salon, my manager was extremely strict on our all neutral, no-fuss dress code, so instead of breaking the rules to keep it trendy, I would utilize my earrings and necklaces all the day long. Don't surrender your edginess, just go on a budget friendly, online shopping spree and pick out some new faves to wear with your all black and otherwise blah uniforms. If big and colorful isn't your thing, simple goes a long way, and some tiny studs and a little initial necklace can make all the difference.

If you don't have a leather jacket, get out there and get one. Leather jackets make the world go round, and they can be paired with a dress or blouse to cover up shoulders in a business meeting, or you can use it to make a semi-formal dress a little bit more low-key and office friendly. If leather jackets just aren't your style, go for a denim jacket or a colored blazer. The best place to get a leather jacket that's cute and isn't a million dollars is TJ Maxx. Be a TJ Maxx shopper and you really can't go wrong!
